Media Alert: Story Olympic tickets offshored National Outsourcing Association comments 08/02/12
National Outsourcing Association Chairman Martyn Hart comments:

“Is this is fear at play?  Pure and simple?  Risk-averse public sector decision makers overthinking and overestimating the amount of risk involved. They would rather take the inevitable bad press than induce yet another Olympic ticket catastrophe.  But what is so special about these tickets that they must be printed in the USA? The skills and technology exist with UK companies. However ‘through, open and competitive’ the procurement process was, ultimately, they have stuck with who they know, who was used last time, disregarding what is best for the UK economy.

“This contract could have created jobs, or at the very least protected them – in UK companies.  The Olympics are funded by the state, so the additional drain to the tax payer of unemployment and loss of business taxes should be an evaluation criteria, and the whole process made public.

“The National Outsourcing Association is working towards shortening procurement time and expense for the public sector, which would allow many more SMEs to tender, and help towards creating jobs.”
